Job description
An excellent locum tenens opportunity for an experienced Thoracic Surgeon to provide high-level surgical and on-call coverage. This role supports an established thoracic team and offers immediate impact in a busy, well-equipped hospital environment.
Job Responsibilities
Perform advanced thoracic procedures including minimally invasive and robotic surgeries
Manage adult and geriatric patients requiring acute thoracic care
Coordinate with OR staff, ICU teams, and hospitalists for comprehensive care
Respond to urgent and emergent thoracic cases as needed
Support continuity of care during gaps in staffing for the thoracic team
Qualifications
Active Virginia medical license – Required
BLS and ACLS certifications – Required
Must be local (mileage only reimbursed) – Required
Ability to submit a flat 24-hour call rate including all gratis hours
Prior experience with advanced thoracic and minimally invasive procedures
Working Hours
Additional future dates throughout 2026
Call schedule determined based on department needs
Skills
Strong operative and perioperative management skills
Ability to handle urgent thoracic cases
Effective communication in a multidisciplinary environment
Competence in EPIC EMR
