Locums – Oakland, California, Neurosurgery Opening

Clinical Role

• Start date: December 20, 2026
• 26-week assignment
• Level I trauma setting
• Call-only position with inpatient rounding while on call
• No clinic or elective surgery responsibilities
• Approximately 5-10 shifts per month

Schedule & Call

• 24-hour call shifts
• Call may run 6:00 am-6:00 am or 7:00 am-7:00 am
• Weekday and weekend coverage required
• Must be able to arrive at the hospital within 20 minutes of being called

Clinical Expectations & Procedures

• Interpret brain and spine CT and MRI findings
• Complete consultation and progress notes
• EVD and ICP monitor placement
• Emergency Neurosurgery procedures
• Craniotomy/craniectomy for traumatic pathology
• Cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine stabilization for unstable fractures

Support

• APP coverage from 7:00 am-5:00 pm
• General Surgery residents serve as first call for consultations overnight
• Residents may assist in the OR when available
• Permanent staff manage elective cases

Requirements & Credentialing

• Board Certified or Board Eligible accepted
• Active California license required
• Active California DEA with full schedules required
• ACLS required
• Completion of a Neurosurgery residency required
• Minimum 2 years of Neurosurgery experience preferred; candidates with less experience may be considered with strong trauma experience
