Aya Locums is seeking a Board Certified Neurosurgeon to provide locum tenens coverage at an acute care hospital in Rockingham, Virginia. This opportunity begins June 1, 2026 and runs through December 31, 2026, with the potential for extension.
This assignment is supporting the hospital while they recruit a permanent neurosurgeon and offers the opportunity to help build a new neurosurgery program with full office support staff already in place.
The position includes 24-hour call coverage with a manageable caseload, focusing primarily on general spine and minor cranial procedures.
The hospital utilizes Epic EMR and offers travel support for non-local physicians.

Job Responsibilities
• Evaluate and manage neurosurgical consults and admissions
• Perform general spine procedures
• Perform minor cranial procedures as needed
• Collaborate with hospital staff and support teams
• Document patient care using Epic EMR
Case Volume:
• Average daily caseload: 2
• Weekend callbacks: ~2
• Weekend admissions: 2–3
• Weeknight calls: ~5 per day
• Weeknight admissions: 2–3 per week
Qualifications
• Active Virginia Medical License (required)
• DEA registered in Virginia or willing to transfer
• Current CV
Working Hours
• Monday 7:00 AM – Monday 7:00 AM rotation
• Coverage needed June 1 – December 31, 2026
• Ongoing locum coverage with potential extensions
