General Surgery setting in north FL near Gainesville and Valdosta,GA!!

Hospital Employed setting
Incoming physician would be the only full-time General Surgeon on medical staff.
Competitive financial package to include salary, WRVU incentive, nice benefits (CME, relocation allowance, vacation, 401k, commencement bonus, health/dental/vision, disability insurance), potential for medical education debt assistance and residency stipend.

Call Coverage: 1 in 2 (from Surgeon at nearby Hospital). Incoming physician would not take more than 15 days of call per month.

Office Space: Medical Office Building on hospital campus available.

This would be a "Bread and Butter" General Surgical position. There is limited opportunity for sub-specialty work such as Vascular, Bariatric, Trauma, etc. due to the size of the hospital and service area.

Hospital only performs day surgery. MD Anesthesia available Monday-Friday. One OR, one scope room, 4 PACU beds. City has one c-section room in addition to four ORs and a bronch/endo room. Emergency caes and call more at the Hospital.

Reason for search: reason loss of the only General Surgeon on staff and per the community needs assessment completed by the Coker Group for the Medical Center, there will be a need of 4 General surgeons in the combined Primary and Secondary Service Areas of the hospital by next year. In addition to the population growth and projected increase of general surgery discharges in the Hospital PSA and SSA service areas, recent analysis show an outmigration of 509 surgeries last year (IP & OP) being taken out of the service areas to the surrounding Gainesville, Jacksonville, Tallahassee areas. City is also home to a retirement/ nursing community with over 1,200 residents. Higher risk surgeries can be transferred to the other Hospital if needed.

County has a population of 50,000 and Live Oak, Florida is in the heart of the Suwannee River Valley. Low unemployment, low crime, good schools, outdoor activities abroad. Active live music scene with major music festivals throughout the year. City is close to major cities (Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville). Countless springs and lakes offer enjoyable sports including swimming, cave diving, fishing, tubing and canoeing. Suwannee River State Park and Ichetucknee Springs State Park are very beautiful sites for recreation. The county and city also fund high quality recreational facilities which offer such activities as racquetball, tennis, softball, basketball, golf, soccer, baseball, swimming, disc golf and more.
