Locums Cardiovascular Surgery Physician

We are seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Cardiovascular/ Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician for locum tenens coverage in Joplin, Missouri. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience across a broad spectrum of adult cardiac and vascular procedures, with general thoracic surgery experience highly valued.

Position Highlights

• Initial Coverage: December 18, 2026 at 7:00 AM through January 2, 3, or potentially January 8, 2027
• Candidates unable to cover the entire assignment may be considered through January 2
• Ongoing 2027 Need: 1–2 weeks per month
• Preference for candidates:
  • Within driving distance
  • With no malpractice history
  • Able to commit to 1–2 weeks per month throughout 2027
• Daily Rate: $6,900/day, all-inclusive, excluding malpractice and travel/lodging
• Malpractice: $200/day
• Holiday Rate: 1.5x
• Average Workday: 6–8 hours
• Annual CABG Volume: Approximately 130 cases
• TAVR Volume: Similar to CABG volume

Clinical Responsibilities

• Adult cardiovascular surgery
• Cardiac and vascular procedures
• Inpatient rounding and operative care
• Management of cardiovascular surgical patients
• Collaboration with cardiology, pulmonology, oncology, and critical care teams
• General thoracic surgery and interventions are highly beneficial
• Ability to provide associated cardiac, vascular, and/or thoracic coverage based on experience

Requirements

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Cardiovascular/ Cardiothoracic Surgery
• For Board Eligible physicians, certification must be obtained within 5 years of residency
• Active Missouri medical license or IMLC
• IMLC candidates are acceptable if they can obtain a Missouri license before the start date
• No minimum years of experience required
• ACLS required if requesting conscious sedation privileges
• Flu vaccination required, or qualifying medical/religious exemption
• COVID vaccination required, or qualifying medical/religious exemption
