Position Overview
Practice general surgery in Maui, Hawaii — one of the most sought-after locum tenens destinations in the United States.
One of our Partners is seeking a Board-Certified General Surgeon to provide full-time surgical coverage in Wailuku on the island of Maui, offering the opportunity to combine meaningful clinical work with the lifestyle benefits of practicing in one of the most scenic locations in the country.
This assignment includes a mix of outpatient surgical clinic responsibilities, inpatient consultations, operative cases, and shared call coverage.
Surgeons will treat a broad range of general surgical conditions while working within a collaborative, multi-specialty medical environment alongside experienced physicians and clinical staff.
Typical weekly responsibilities include 12–14 scheduled consults plus urgent evaluations and pre- and post-operative visits, along with operative cases such as appendectomy, cholecystectomy, hernia repair, breast surgery, and management of bowel obstruction or colon cancer.

Provider Compensation
Estimated Weekly Provider Pay: $10,000

Assignment Highlights

• Schedule: Monday – Friday clinic schedule
Clinic Schedule
Monday – Friday
8:00 AM – 5:00 / 6:00 PM
Clinic Volume
• Approximately 12–14 consults per week
• Additional urgent consults and pre/post operative visits
Surgical Case Mix
• Appendectomy
• Cholecystectomy
• Hernia repairs
• Benign and malignant breast procedures
• Bowel obstruction
• Colon cancer surgery
• General abdominal surgery
• Limited trauma exposure
Call Coverage
• General surgery call 1:3 rotation
• Coverage at Maui Memorial Medical Center
Call Expectations
• Typically 2–6 consults per call day
• No trauma call required
• Approximately 1–4 call days per month
Rounding
• Surgeons round on their own patients
• Opportunity for team rounding on weekends

Job Responsibilities
• Provide comprehensive general surgical care for adult patients
• Evaluate surgical consults and urgent surgical presentations
• Perform general surgery procedures in the operating room
• Manage inpatient surgical patients and postoperative care
• Provide pre-operative and post-operative clinic visits
• Perform inpatient consultations at Maui Memorial Medical Center
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary specialty teams
• Maintain accurate documentation within the facility EMR
Skills & Experience
• MD or DO required
• Board Certified in General Surgery
• Graduate of an accredited medical school or ECFMG certification
• Active Hawaii Medical License required
• Pre-existing IMLCC license acceptable
• 5–10 years post-fellowship experience required
• Must practice evidence-based medicine
• Comfortable working within collaborative multi-specialty environments
