Job description
ATC West Healthcare Services is seeking one Board-Certified General Surgeon to provide comprehensive acute care and clinic coverage for up to one year. The selected surgeon will function as a full-time member of the team, managing scheduled clinic visits, performing surgeries, providing post-operative care, and covering 24/7 hospital call while on assignment. Coverage is needed due to a recent retirement, with one surgeon working at a time in coordination with two additional providers.
Dates & Schedule

Start Date: As soon as credentialed

Coverage Model: 7–10 day block schedule for up to one year
-
Days per Month: Approximately 20 days shared among 2–3 surgeons
-
Shift Time: 5:30 a.m. – 5:30 a.m. (24-hour responsibility while on assignment)

Clinic Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

24-Hour Call: Continuous while working (including nights and weekends)
March/April Dates:

3/23 – Clinic (8a–5p)

3/24–3/26 – Clinic + Call (5:30a–5:30a)

3/27–3/28 – Call Only (5:30a–5:30a)

4/20–4/23 – Clinic (8a–5p)

4/24 – Call Only (5:30a–5:30a)
Typical Weekly Schedule:

Clinic: 14–16 patients/day (Mon), 10–12 patients (Tues/Thurs PM)

OR: Tues AM, Wed (full day), Thurs AM, Fri (full day)

Weekend: 24-hour call coverage

Average Callback Hours:
-
Weekday: 7.8 hours

Weekend: 6.7 hours

Job Details & Responsibilities
Setting: Acute care hospital and outpatient clinic
Clinical Duties:
-
See scheduled clinic patients (14–16 per day)
-
Perform approximately 10 surgeries per week (~500 annually; 75% outpatient)
-
Provide 24-hour call coverage, including ED trauma response
-
Perform consultations, emergency surgeries, and post-operative care
-
Manage approximately 2 inpatient admissions per week
-
Practice as an integrated, full-time member of the hospital team
Required Procedures:

Diagnostic & screening colonoscopies

Diagnostic EGD

Cholecystectomy

Appendectomy
-
Hernia repair with mesh

Abdominal wall repair with synthetic substitute

Excision of breast
-
Skin excision
-
Hemorrhoidectomy
Trauma Response:
-
Must respond to ED traumas including falls, MVAs, GSWs, stabbings, and blunt trauma cases
EMR Systems:

Meditech (hospital)

eClinicalWorks (clinic)
Support Staff:

Full hospital staff

Clinic MAs and RN support
Credentialing:

Temporary privileges available

Self-Query NPDB (within 30 days) required at submission

No credentialing with additional facilities
Required Skills & Qualifications
Required:
-
Board Certified in General Surgery
-
Active Oregon medical license (or in process for May/June start)
-
Completion of accredited residency (fellowship if applicable)

Active ACLS, BLS, and DEA
-
Ability to perform all listed required procedures
-
Willingness to work in both clinic and hospital settings
-
Ability to practice as a full-time team member

Self-Query NPDB report (dated within 30 days of submission)
Highly Preferred:
-
Clean malpractice history (facility not interested in candidates with malpractice history)
