A community-based hospital in Brattleboro, Vermont is seeking a full-time Board Certified or Board Eligible General Surgeon to join a collaborative surgical team.
This opportunity offers a broad scope of practice across inpatient, outpatient, emergency department, and wound care settings. The incoming surgeon will work closely with anesthesiology, hospitalists, advanced practice providers, and perioperative teams in a supportive environment focused on high-quality surgical care.
Job Responsibilities
• Perform common general surgery procedures including:
o Hernia repair
o Cholecystectomy
o Endoscopy
o Appendectomy
o Small bowel obstruction management
o Colorectal surgery
o Skin and soft tissue procedures
• Evaluate and manage acute and chronic wounds within a multidisciplinary Wound Clinic
• Provide emergency department surgical consults
• Collaborate with:
o Anesthesiologists & CRNAs
o Physician Assistants
o Hospitalists
o ED clinicians
o Wound care team
• Educate patients and families regarding procedures, risks, benefits, and post-operative care
• Review diagnostic testing and address abnormalities
• Provide surgical input for palliative care, pain management, and end-of-life discussions
• Participate in departmental meetings and ongoing professional development
• Maintain OSHA Category I compliance
Qualifications
• Completion of accredited General Surgery Residency (no exemptions)
• MD or DO from accredited medical school
• Active Vermont medical license (or ability to obtain)
• DEA (prior to start)
• CPR for Healthcare Providers
• Clean malpractice history
• NPDB Self Query (within 30 days at presentation)
• Not open to visa candidates
• Not accepting Locum or Locum-to-Perm candidates
• Must reside within 1 hour of facility
• Cannot hold another concurrent position
