Location: Brattleboro, Vermont
Compensation: $19.50 per hour (equivalent to an annual salary range of approximately $285,000 – $320,000, based on experience and qualifications)

Brattleboro Memorial Hospital Medical Group is actively seeking a dedicated, board-certified or board-eligible General Surgeon to join our collaborative surgical team. This full-time, permanent position offers an excellent opportunity to provide comprehensive surgical care within a supportive community hospital setting in Brattleboro, Vermont.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver comprehensive surgical services across inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings.
- Perform a broad range of common general surgical procedures including hernia repairs, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, small bowel obstruction management, colorectal surgeries, skin and soft tissue procedures, and endoscopies.
- Manage acute and chronic wounds through our multidisciplinary Wound Clinic.
- Provide expert diagnosis, treatment planning, and operative management for diverse surgical conditions.
- Exercise advanced operative techniques and clinical judgment to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Collaborate closely with anesthesiologists, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs), Physician Assistants, perioperative staff, emergency department clinicians, hospitalists, and wound care teams.
- Educate patients and their families regarding surgical procedures, associated risks, benefits, and post-operative care.
- Review diagnostic test results, interpret abnormalities, and communicate findings effectively.
- Offer surgical input for palliative care, pain management, and end-of-life decision-making.
- Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to ongoing quality improvement initiatives.
- Engage in professional development activities to maintain current surgical knowledge.
- Comply with OSHA Category I standards, including bloodborne pathogen precautions.
- Maintain adherence to hospital policies and best practices to ensure high-quality patient care.
Qualifications & Certifications:
- Medical Degree (MD or DO)
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery
- Valid DEA registration
- Current CPR certification
- VMS certification requirements include CPR, DEA, and eligibility status via board certification
Candidate Requirements:
- Willingness to work in a collaborative team environment
- Ability to provide patient-centered, evidence-based surgical care
- Not accepting candidates who commute more than 1 hour to the facility
- Not accepting visa candidates or those seeking part-time or locum/locum-to-permanent roles
- Candidates planning to work this position alongside other employment are not eligible
