Cardiothoracic Surgeon Job Details

  • Position Type: Locum tenens cardiothoracic surgeon (contract/travel)
  • Location: Hartford, CT (06105) – Connecticut healthcare jobs
  • Setting: Hospital-based, inpatient (Operating Room, ICU, ER, floor rounding)
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:45 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Call: Nights and weekends (7–8 calls/month, shared among 3 providers)
  • Shift Duration: 10-hour days
  • Assignment Length: Three 6-month assignments, potential extension into 2026
  • Average Cases: 2 per day
  • Trauma Level: Level One trauma center
  • EMR: EPIC
  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $7,100–$8,410

Cardiothoracic Surgeon Qualifications

  • Board Certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery (required)
  • Active Connecticut medical license (required)
  • BLS and ACLS certifications (required)
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical experience in cardiothoracic surgery
  • Local Connecticut providers preferred (mileage reimbursement only)

Cardiothoracic Surgery Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of cardiothoracic surgical procedures, including:
    • Descending aortic aneurysms
    • CABG and off-pump CABG
    • Arterial revascularization (internal mammary, radial, gastroepiploic arteries)
    • Redo coronary revascularization
    • Tube thoracostomy
    • Pericardial window
    • Thoracic aortic aneurysms
    • Heart valve repair/replacement (CoreValve system, mitral valve repair)
  • Round on patients in the ER, ICU, and hospital floors
  • Participate in night and weekend call rotation
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to deliver exceptional patient care
  • Document all patient encounters and procedures in EPIC EMR
