Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the first assist during cardiovascular and general surgical procedures, collaborating closely with the attending surgeon and cardiothoracic team.
- Assist in the preparation, positioning, and draping of patients to ensure optimal surgical conditions.
- Provide intraoperative support, including handling surgical instruments, managing equipment, and ensuring adherence to sterile techniques.
- Support preoperative and postoperative procedures as required to facilitate patient care continuity.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of surgical protocols, safety standards, and emerging techniques relevant to cardiac and general surgeries.
- Accurately document procedural details in patient records following hospital policies.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Medical degree (MD or DO) with appropriate surgical residency training in General Surgery and/or Cardiovascular Surgery.
- Valid medical license to practice in the state of California.
- Proven experience assisting in cardiovascular and general surgical procedures, preferably in a high-volume hospital setting.
- Excellent understanding of surgical instrumentation, techniques, and safety protocols.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment, handling multiple cases efficiently.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends, with 8-hour shifts. No overnight calls or rounding responsibilities are required.
Work Environment & Schedule:
- This position involves providing first assist support exclusively during surgical cases at the designated hospital.
- Schedule may include shifts from Monday through Sunday to accommodate surgical case volume.
- This role does not involve administrative duties, office work, or on-call responsibilities.
- All work performed within the operating room setting.
