We are seeking a Board-Certified Cardiothoracic Surgeon for a full-time locum tenens assignment in Hartford, Connecticut. This is a hospital-based cardiothoracic surgery role covering inpatient care, operating room cases, ICU management, and patient rounding. The position offers a structured weekday schedule with call rotation, a high-acuity surgical environment, and access to modern operating rooms and full ancillary support. This opportunity is ideal for experienced cardiothoracic surgeons looking for complex cardiac and thoracic cases in a Level I trauma center with the potential for assignment extension.
Job Responsibilities
• Manage pre-operative and post-operative inpatient cardiac surgery patients
• Provide surgical coverage in the OR, ICU, emergency department, and inpatient floors
• Participate in night and weekend call rotations
• Perform complex cardiac and thoracic procedures including CABG and valve surgeries
• Collaborate with anesthesia, ICU teams, nursing staff, and surgical support teams
• Maintain accurate documentation using the EPIC EMR system
• Provide care for adult and geriatric patient populations
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies and clinical best practices
Qualifications
• Active Connecticut medical license (required)
• BLS and ACLS certifications
• Experience in hospital-based cardiothoracic surgery
• Ability to manage high-acuity cardiac surgical cases
• Comfortable taking night and weekend call
• NPDB self-query report (recent)
• Strong clinical judgment and surgical decision-making skills
Working Hours
• Day shift: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Night and weekend call rotation (approximately 7–8 calls per month)
• Inpatient, OR, ICU, and rounding responsibilities
