Position Overview

One of our Partners in South Carolina is seeking locum tenens Facial Trauma call coverage to support its Level II Trauma Center in Florence, South Carolina. This is call-only coverage with no clinic or outpatient responsibilities. Coverage may be provided by a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Otolaryngologist, Plastic Surgeon, or Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon with strong, independent facial trauma experience.

This opportunity is ideal for providers comfortable practicing autonomously in a large, busy trauma center while taking call remotely (not in-house).

Assignment Highlights

  • Coverage Type: Facial trauma call coverage only

  • Setting: Emergency Department consults and inpatient rounding

  • No Clinic / No Outpatient Responsibilities

  • Call Structure:

    • Not in-house

    • Provider may take call from a local hotel once daily responsibilities are complete

  • Trauma Level: Level II

  • Facility Size: 500+ bed regional referral center

  • Call Volume:

    • Typically up to 5–6 consults per day (variable)

    • Possibly more on weekends

    • Detailed expectations reviewed with lead physician during second clinical call

  • Coverage Model: Shared with local ENT, Oral Surgery, and Plastic Surgery groups

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide facial trauma call coverage for ED consults

  • Perform facial trauma procedures, including but not limited to:

    • Mandible fractures

    • Orbital floor fractures

    • Lid lacerations

  • Round on post-operative and inpatient cases operated on during the coverage period

  • Manage trauma-related consults as needed

  • Work independently while coordinating with ED and trauma teams

Skills & Experience

  • Strong facial trauma experience required

  • Comfortable managing complex trauma cases independently

  • Prior experience in a high-acuity trauma center strongly preferred

Qualifications

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in:

    • Otolaryngology (ENT)

    • Plastic Surgery

    • Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

  • Active South Carolina medical license

  • South Carolina Controlled Substances Registration (CSR)

  • DEA that can remain permanently registered in South Carolina
