Job description Locums NP/PA Trauma Surgery – Robbinsdale, Minnesota Opportunity Overview

This NP/PA Trauma Surgery locums opportunity in Robbinsdale, Minnesota offers the chance to function autonomously in a Level I adult trauma center that also cares for pediatric patients. The role is primarily focused on trauma hospitalist rounding with exposure to trauma activations, ED consults, and procedures. Coverage is available May through July, with up to full-time work.

Assignment Details
  • Coverage Dates: May – July

  • Workload: Up to full-time availability

  • Shift Schedule:

    • 10-hour shifts

    • 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM

  • Call Requirement:

    • No call

    • In-house coverage only

Practice Setting & Scope
  • Primary Role:

    • Trauma hospitalist rounding

    • Intermittent ED consults

    • Trauma activations

    • Procedural work

  • Advanced Scope Opportunities:

    • Providers with surgical and trauma critical care experience may assist with higher-acuity needs

  • Autonomy:

    • APP will work autonomously

    • Trauma surgeon onsite 24/7 for supervision and backup

Clinical Volume
  • Average Daily Census:

    • 10–14 admitted patients (non-ICU)

    • ~6 patients (ICU)

  • Admissions / ED Volume:

    • 2–15 admissions per 24 hours

Hospital & Department Snapshot
  • Trauma Designation: Level I adult trauma center (also treats pediatrics)

  • Specialty Backup: Trauma surgeon available for all procedures

  • EMR: EPIC

  • Patient Population:

    • Ages 0–100+

    • Primarily adult and adolescent

Core Responsibilities
  • Responding to ED trauma alerts

  • ER admissions

  • Daily rounding and comprehensive management of all patient conditions

  • Facilitating discharges

  • Acting as the attending provider (no hospitalist service utilized)

  • Adhering to departmental guidelines and non-clinical tracking expectations

Preferred / Required Procedures

(Not all required, but preferred)

  • Non-invasive ventilation management (BiPAP/CPAP)

  • Ventilation management

  • Chest tube insertion

  • Central line placement

  • Arterial line placement

  • Suturing minor lacerations

Candidate Requirements (Required)
  • Board Certified: ACNP, AGNP, or PA-C

  • Minnesota license — required

  • Certifications: ATLS, PALS, ACLS

  • DEA: Verbal confirmation required at time of name clear

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 1 year inpatient APP experience

    • Strong preference for trauma, ICU, and/or orthopedic background

  • Local candidate: Preferred
