We are looking for a dedicated professional to provide exceptional orthopedic surgical care at a prominent Level II Trauma Center in Tacoma. Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Orthopedic Surgeon for a locum position at St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma, WA. The selected candidate will provide essential orthopedic surgical services, primarily covering the Emergency Room 24/7, along with outpatient clinic duties. This role offers the opportunity to work two weeks per month, supporting a busy trauma center and outpatient services. The ideal candidate will collaborate with hospital support staff and outpatient teams, deliver quality patient care, and contribute to a multidisciplinary medical team.
Required Skills
  • Medical Degree (MD or DO) with valid medical license in Washington
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Level II trauma settings
  • Proven proficiency in a full spectrum of orthopedic procedures (excluding complex pelvic cases)
  • Ability to manage orthopedic trauma cases independently
  • Strong ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Proficiency in EPIC electronic medical records system
    Nice to Have Skills
  • Trauma fellowship training or specialized trauma experience
  • Experience working with dedicated physician assistants and support staff
  • Prior experience in outpatient orthopedic clinics
  • Additional certifications in orthopedic trauma management or related areas
    Preferred Education and Experience
  • Medical degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in orthopedic surgery within a Level II trauma setting
  • Demonstrated competency in managing diverse orthopedic trauma cases and outpatient procedures
    Other Requirements
  • Credentialing timeframe: 60-90 days
  • Ability to start as soon as credentialed, with an expected onboarding period of approximately 90 days
  • Willingness to work 24-hour call shifts, including nights and holidays
  • Candidates with trauma experience but lacking fellowship training are encouraged to apply, provided credentialing requirements are met
  • Must be familiar with EPIC EMR system
  • Availability for ongoing coverage up to 2 weeks per month, flexible based on internal staffing needs
