Surgery Chair opening in Dayton, OH We are seeking an accomplished leader with a demonstrated ability to grow and elevate academic health platforms in their missions of clinical care, research, and education to serve as Department and Institute Chair. This senior leadership role requires a dynamic individual with a comprehensive understanding of academic medicine, innovative healthcare delivery models, and excellence in clinical care, education, and research. Outstanding strategic communication, diplomacy, and collaborative leadership skills are essential. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary and innovative leadership to the academic department and institute
  • Promote and maintain standards of excellence in compliance with national benchmarks
  • Stabilize and grow the physician workforce through strategic recruitment of clinical faculty
  • Foster superior clinical, educational, and interdisciplinary programs
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality medical education and advanced training for students, residents, fellows, and other learners
  • Oversee and support research initiatives and scholarly activity within the department
  • Engage in effective communication across departments and institutes
  • Promote community health initiatives aligned with the needs of the patient population served
Requirements M.D. or D.O. degree Board certified in area of specialty Minimum of 10 years of leadership experience in an academic medical center Record of professional accomplishments with national and/or international recognition Active medical license Comprehensive knowledge of ACGME standards and graduate medical education regulations Eligible for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor at an LCME-accredited medical school Preferred Qualifications Prior leadership roles such as Chair, Associate Director, Program Director, or equivalent Experience recruiting, retaining, and managing clinicians, educators, and researchers Distinguished academic record with peer-reviewed publications, national organization leadership, or comparable achievements Strong organizational, business, and financial acumen Proven leadership, strategic agility, and priority-setting abilities Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, learners, administrators, and health system partners Demonstrated commitment to faculty mentorship and professional development Track record of building high-performing teams Commitment to resident education and well-being Effective change management and adaptability Ability to function successfully within a matrixed reporting structure Community Details As the birthplace of aviation the sky is certainly the limit when it comes to the endless quality of life amenities that the Dayton area has to offer.
