Job description
We are seeking an experienced Locums Thoracic Surgery Physician to provide high-acuity surgical call coverage in Richmond, VA. This position is hospital-based and focuses on acute care thoracic surgery, offering exposure to a wide range of complex procedures and pathology.
Position Details
- Shift Type: 24-hour call shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 AM)
- Setting: Hospital-based, acute care
- Average Cases per Day: 2–3
- Duration: Ongoing locum coverage needs
Required Procedural Competencies
- Thoracic surgical procedures: Bronchoscopy, VATS, Robot-Assisted Thoracic Surgery, Mediastinoscopy, Tube Thoracostomy, Tracheostomy, Pericardial Window, Lobectomy, Pneumonectomy, Thoracotomy, Decortication
- Endoscopic procedures: Navigational Bronchoscopy, Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS), Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)
- Management of thoracic conditions: Lung cancer, esophageal disorders, pleural effusions, pneumothorax, mediastinal masses, rib fractures, thoracic outlet syndrome, diaphragm hernias, and advanced lung disease (COPD, pulmonary fibrosis)
Requirements
- Board Certified in Thoracic Surgery
- Active Virginia Medical License – required (no exceptions)
- BLS & ACLS certifications
- Strong experience in high-acuity thoracic surgical care
- Ability to manage emergent and complex thoracic cases independently
