Job description
We are seeking a Board-Certified/Eligible General Surgeon for locum tenens call-only coverage starting August 4, 2025, to support department restructuring. The role is inpatient only, with no outpatient responsibilities or admissions. Providers must hold an active West Virginia medical license.
Job Responsibilities
Perform procedures including appendectomy, cholecystectomy, endoscopy (EGD, colonoscopy), hernia repairs, and more
Respond to trauma and emergent surgical cases
Handle 3–5 phone consults per 24 hours, see 5–10 patients, with 2–3 admissions
Be available for call backs with a 30-minute response time
Qualifications
Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery
Fellowship training preferred
Current ABLS, ACLS, and BLS certifications
Experience with Meditech EMR preferred
Clean malpractice history strongly preferred
Working Hours
24-hour beeper call coverage
Ongoing assignment with flexibility for extended coverage
No outpatient rounding or admissions required
Skills
Comfortable with trauma care and emergency surgical interventions
Strong clinical judgment and communication skills
Ability to work independently within a hospital setting
