Your Role With Us:

Salem Health Hospitals and Clinics is seeking an unscheduled Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon to join our Trauma and Acute Care Surgery program. Salem Hospital is a level II trauma center, with approximately 2,000 trauma activations annually. Our team of experienced surgeons perform more than 14,200 surgeries annually with approximately 80% being emergency/trauma and 20% elective surgery. Our practice consists of fifteen (15) surgeons and seven (7) advanced practice providers who offer inpatient, outpatient, and OR services. Qualified candidates should expect a variable schedule as this is a hospital-based position. Salem Health is home to the busiest emergency room on the west coast, providing a high volume of diverse and complex cases. We have a growing medical group that has over seventeen (17) specialties (including dedicated vascular and thoracic surgeons). You would be joining a team of Trauma and Acute Care Surgeons who love what they do, enjoy teaching, and foster collegiality.

Background/Expertise:

  • Graduated from an approved school of medicine
  • Completion of an accredited residency program in general surgery
  • Demonstrate experience and current competency, to include the performance of at least 100 general surgical procedures in the past 24 months.
  • Skilled in all aspects of emergency general surgery including: exploratory laparotomy, damage control surgery, initial trauma evaluation and resuscitation, bowel resection, thoracotomy, thoracosopy, incisional drainage, excisional debridement, wound management including vacuum assisted wound care, vascular access, sepsis resuscitation, surgical critical care, emergency surgical airways, vascular trauma and basic laparoscopy.
  • Hold board certification in surgery by the American Board of Surgery or the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery, or are eligible to obtain within five (5) years from completion of the applicable residency and/or fellowship program.
  • Hold/able to obtain unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Oregon.
  • Hold current DEA certificate
  • Hold current ATLS and ACLS certification
