Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is seeking an experienced Board Certified Cardiac Surgeon to join a group of 2 Cardiac Surgeons, and 2 Non-cardiac Thoracic Surgeons in Tacoma, Washington. Our practice is based at St Joseph Medical Center, a level II trauma facility with 374 beds.

Surgeon attributes and the position:

We are seeking a board certified surgeon who has a strong interest in joining a high functioning, cohesive team, that is collectively focused on quality, efficiency, and offering niche services to our community. A desire to work within a collaborative team is imperative, as our unique collegial practice environment is the foundation to our consistent top tier quality. Requirements include board certification (American Board of Thoracic Surgery), a Washington State Medical License, and an active DEA in good standing.

Our Division currently emphasizes individual surgeon commitment to specific areas of practice in order to create a unique, innovative and expert approach to the delivery of Cardiac Surgical Care.

The successful candidate will have an interest in being actively involved in our national service line, since we are part of [Register to View] Health, a non-profit system of 140 hospitals and more than 1,000 care sites in 21 states. We have an organized, mature national service line that meets regularly to discuss wide ranging relevant issues, including quality, supply-chain, quality metric projects (e.g. transfusion rates), among other things. Through this national service line, which encompasses 43 cardiac surgical programs, there are also clinical research opportunities. Within our national system, we are a Center of Excellence for Mitral Valve surgery and CABG.

Practice Details:

• We offer the full gamut of cardiac surgery services at SJMC (except VAD, ECMO & transplant), and have a complex patient population with a wide ranging breadth of pathology.
• One of the busiest cardiac surgical practices in Washington State.
• A highly collaborative, collegial team that has broad support within our system to focus on high value care.
• Strong focus on high quality care, and we consistently achieve numerous 3-Star ratings from the STS national scorecard
• Mature practice that has had little turnover of its clinical support including our PA-C team and our nurse navigators, as well as our dedicated OR team.
• Single hospital and single clinic practice.
• Dedicated ORs, and ICU team for cardiac surgery within our hospital
• Practice supported by 6 APPs, and 5 nurse navigators.
