Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, is seeking a board-certified Adult Cardiothoracic Transplant Surgeon at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor employed by the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine at the Jane & Leonard Korman Respiratory Institute of Thomas Jefferson and National Jewish Health. We are seeking a patient focused surgeon who can perform all aspects of cardiac surgery along with particular experience and a passion for lung transplant. The incoming surgeon will have a competitive compensation package, comprehensive benefits package, and a collegial work environment.

Position Description:

  • Perform surgical organ recovery to local and national standards for organ transplantation. Serves as the primary procurement surgeon for abdominal organs.
  • Maintain on-going knowledge, and actively involved in the development/revision and implementation of UNOS and CORE policies/protocols and procedures concerning the testing (evaluation for suitability& donor management), recovery and placement of postmortem organs.
  • Exposure to and education in ex vivo lung perfusion
  • Opportunity to participate in and develop expertise in lung transplant operations and post-transplant management

Qualifications:

  • Board certification by the American Board of Thoracic Surgeons preferred
  • Minimum of two years of experience in lung transplantation preferred
  • Proven leadership experience preferably from a large and busy institution demonstrating strong communication skills and ability to build relationships with both private practice and employed groups
  • Candidates must hold or have the ability to obtain the appropriate medical licenses in the state of Pennsylvania

  • A Respiratory Service Line was established with the intention of standardizing care and integrating related efforts throughout the enterprise; this service line is driven by the Korman Respiratory Institute and the leadership of Dr. Jesse Roman.
