The Charleston Area Medical Center Institute for Academic Medicine is seeking a full-time Trauma Division Chief. Job duties include: maintenance of Level 1 certification, provision of leadership for the development, guidance, evaluation and performance improvement of the multi-disciplinary trauma program, teaching general surgery residents and medical students, oversight of trauma research in support of accreditation in collaboration with an established research team, and clinical care delivery as appropriate for the position.

Job Requirements by the time of appointment are:

  • MD, DO degree or foreign equivalent degree from an accredited program
  • Fellowship in Trauma or Trauma/Critical Care
  • Board Certified in General Surgery
  • Possess aptitude and passion for educating residents and medical students
  • Experience in appropriate academic, clinical research or other scholarly activity required of a Trauma Medical Director
  • 3 – 5 years of experience

Under the auspices of the CAMC Institute for Academic Medicine, CAMC is a growing academic medical center sponsoring 16 accredited medical residencies and fellowship programs; 3 pharmacy residency programs; a doctoral clinical psychology internship and a doctoral level School of Nurse Anesthesia. Our strategic plan includes expansion of GME programs in a number of disciplines over the next five years as well as a growing portfolio of research programs and initiatives. CAMC is home to two regional medical school campuses hosting 150 full-time medical students on site. Annually over 1500 learners receive clinical training experiences at CAMC. A new Center for Learning and Research will house a 14,000 square foot simulation center and other facilities dedicated to our education and research programs. CAMC’s human protection research program achieved accreditation by the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRP), which recognizes institutional “commitment and scientifically and ethically sound research and to continuous improvement.”

Charleston Area Medical Center - established in 1972, CAMC is a nonprofit, 1,103-bed regional referral center made up of six hospitals: CAMC General Hospital, CAMC Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, CAMC Memorial Hospital, CAMC Plateau Medical Center, CAMC Teays Valley Hospital and CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital, as well as the CAMC Institute for Academic Medicine and the CAMC Foundation. Nearly 900 physicians have admitting privileges at CAMC, which is also West Virginia's premiere medical teaching facility, hosting, on any given day, more than 800 students in programs leading to degrees or certifications in health professions.
