Are you a Board Certified or Board Eligible Cardiovascular Surgeon seeking a high-volume locum tenens arrangement in southwest Missouri? A nationally recognized 339-bed Level II Trauma Center in Joplin, Missouri is seeking an experienced surgeon for holiday coverage from December 18, 2026, through early January 2027, with ongoing 1- to 2-week monthly needs in 2027. Featuring dedicated CVOR suites equipped with robotic technology, robust APP support, and a collaborative multidisciplinary heart team, this assignment offers an exceptional clinical engagement.

The Opportunity

Step into a well-established, high-volume surgical program delivering advanced cardiovascular and general thoracic operative care to a regional catchment area of 400,000.

• Clinical Scope: Lead full-scope cardiovascular and general thoracic surgical care, including:

  • Advanced adult cardiac procedures: CABG (on/off-pump), valve repair/replacement (AVR/MVR), TAVR, and aortic surgery

  • General thoracic surgical interventions: lung resections, mediastinal mass excisions, VATS, and chest wall procedures

  • Managing pre-operative evaluations and post-operative CVICU and step-down care

  • Documenting patient care and order entry via Epic EMR

• The Schedule & Shift Structure: Initial holiday coverage block running December 18, 2026 (7:00 AM) through January 2, 3, or 8, 2027 (ongoing 1 to 2 weeks per month required in 2027).

• Call Requirements: Shared equitable call coverage for emergency cardiovascular and thoracic surgical interventions.

• Facility & Equipment: 3 dedicated CVORs (1 hybrid room, 2 dedicated ORs with DaVinci Xi robot) and dedicated CVICU support.

• Clinical Support Structure: Collaborative heart team including 5 Interventional Cardiologists, 2 General Cardiologists, 1 Electrophysiologist, 2 CV Surgeons, dedicated perfusion/anesthesia, and robust APP coverage across clinic, hospital, and call.

Candidate Requirements

• Degree & Board Status: MD or DO; Board Certified (BC) or Board Eligible (BE) by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS) or equivalent (BE candidates must obtain certification within 5 years of residency).

• Training: ACGME-accredited residency in General Surgery and accredited fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery.

• Licensure: Active, unencumbered Missouri Medical License or IMLC.

• Preferences: Candidates within driving distance, with clean malpractice history, and able to commit to 1–2 weeks per month in 2027 are strongly preferred.
