Cardiovascular Surgery Locum in Joplin, Missouri

We are seeking a highly skilled, patient-focused Cardiovascular Surgeon to join our growing, high-volume surgical team. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in a broad spectrum of adult cardiac and vascular procedures, with valuable experience in general thoracic surgery.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with our multidisciplinary team of cardiologists, pulmonologists, oncologists, and intensive care specialists to provide exceptional, comprehensive operative care. While the primary focus of this position is advanced cardiovascular surgery, the ability to manage and perform essential thoracic interventions is highly beneficial to meet our community's diverse clinical needs.

• Need coverage from December 18 7am to Jan 2 or Jan 3 or even Jan 8th for cardiac and whatever associated skills whether thoracic or vascular. If there is a candidate that cannot do the entire stretch, facility is ok for coverage till Jan 2nd.
• In 2027 there will be an ongoing need for 1 or 2 weeks per month.
• Preference will be given to the candidates who are in driving distance , have No malpractice history and able to commit to 1 to 2 weeks per month in 2027.

• IMLC candidates are ok if they can obtain MO license before the start date.

Volume:

• Average workday is 6 to 8 hours.
• Current volume is about 130 CABG annually. TAVR volume is similar.

Team & Support

• Collaborative and experienced heart team includes 5 Interventional Cardiologists, 2 General Cardiologists, 1 Electrophysiologist, and 2 Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgeons
• Dedicated CV OR team, including anesthesia, perfusion, and CVICU support
• Shared call model with robust APP support (clinic, hospital, and call)

Facilities & Technology

• Three dedicated CVORs - 1 hybrid room and 2 dedicated ORs equipped with advanced technology including DaVinci Xi robot.
• Highly skilled and dedicated cath lab team
• Transitioning to Epic EMR for enhanced efficiency and care coordination

Clarifications on workload and schedule

Depending upon their scheduled surgery schedule it could go over the 8 hours during the week, but that is case by case. Some days it very well could be less than 8 hours that they are here, other days it may be a little longer than 8 hours they are here.

On the weekends, unless they would be doing an urgent/emergent procedure, they come to the hospital and round on the patients with our APP team member.

We do have great APP support to work with the physician on the hospital side. If the physician is in the OR, the APPs round on patients, assist with consults, etc…. This APP is separate from the OR team. In the OR we use first assists instead of PAs/NPs that harvest vein.

• Active MO State License or IMLC.
• Board Status: Board Certified or Board Eligible (Certification must be obtained within 5 years of residency).
• Minimum Years Experience (if applicable): None Required
