Join a high-acuity cardiovascular thoracic surgery locums opportunity at a Level I trauma center, providing comprehensive surgical care across the full continuum. This role is ideal for an experienced surgeon seeking ongoing, full-time coverage in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Start Date: ASAP Assignment Length: Ongoing

• Practice in a Level I Trauma Center
• Full-spectrum cardiothoracic surgical care
• High-acuity cases including emergent and complex procedures
• Strong multidisciplinary collaboration
• Dedicated cardiac surgery and ICU support teams
• Full-time and ongoing block scheduling preferred

• Coverage Model: 24-hour call and/or clinic + OR + call (based on site needs)
• Schedule Preference: Full-time coverage strongly preferred
• Assignment Type: Ongoing blocks preferred

Setting: Acute Care Hospital – Level I Trauma Center

Patient Population: Adult

Volume:

• Admissions: ~70 per day
• Inpatient activity: 90–100 discharges per day

Responsibilities Include:

• Managing cardiothoracic surgery patients across pre-op, intra-op, and post-op phases
• Providing OR coverage for cardiac and thoracic procedures
• Conducting consults, daily rounding, and call coverage
• Managing urgent and emergent cardiac surgery cases
• Collaborating with ICU, cardiology, interventional cardiology, anesthesia, APPs, perfusionists, and OR teams

Procedures:

• CABG (on-pump and off-pump)
• Valve surgeries (AVR, MVR, TAVR)
• ECMO cannulation and management
• Emergent post-PCI interventions
• Type A aortic dissections
• Chest exploration and re-entry for postoperative bleeding
• Temporary mechanical circulatory support

Support Staff:

• APP support including NPs and first assist coverage
• Dedicated cardiac surgery and ICU teams
• Full multidisciplinary support infrastructure

Technology:

• EMR: Cerner + Ingenious Med (iMed)

• Fellowship trained in Cardiothoracic Surgery – required
• Active Arizona license preferred or IMLC accepted
• ACLS, BLS required
• DEA required
