First California Physician Partners is actively seeking a Cardiothoracic Surgical First Assist (Physician) to join our established and growing cardiothoracic surgery team in Modesto, CA. This is a full-time, employed opportunity supporting a high-acuity program with advanced technology, including an active TAVR program and ECMO capabilities.

Highlights

  • Full-time, employed position

  • Primarily inpatient-focused role with some outpatient follow-up

  • Monday-Friday OR schedule 7am- 3:30pm

  • Call participation aligned with the cardiothoracic surgery team

  • Work alongside experienced cardiothoracic surgeons in a collaborative, team-based environment

  • Specialized equipment and resources available, including:

    • Hybrid OR

    • Xi Da Vinci robotic system

    • Dedicated cardiothoracic nursing teams

    • CV PAs and RNFAs

Role Responsibilities

  • Serve as first assist for cardiothoracic surgical procedures, including open and minimally invasive cases

  • Provide perioperative surgical support, including pre-operative and post-operative patient management

  • Participate in call coverage as part of the cardiothoracic surgery team

  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiology, perfusion, nursing, and ICU teams

  • Support quality, safety, and patient-centered care initiatives

Candidate Requirements

  • MD or DO degree required

  • Completed surgical training with experience functioning as a first assist

  • Prior cardiothoracic surgery experience strongly preferred

  • BE/BC or equivalent surgical board eligibility

  • California licensed or eligible to obtain licensure in the State of California

  • Strong procedural skills and ability to function in a fast-paced surgical environment

  • Team-oriented mindset with excellent communication skills
