Job description Locums Cardiovascular Surgery – Coon Rapids, Minnesota (IMLC Accepted) Opportunity Overview

This Cardiovascular Surgery locums opportunity in Coon Rapids, Minnesota offers coverage at a Level II Trauma center with a high-volume, well-established cardiovascular program. While there is an ongoing need, the dates listed below represent priority coverage blocks. The practice focuses primarily on routine cardiac cases with strong structural heart and surgical volume.

Assignment Details
  • Start Date: ASAP

  • Coverage Need: Ongoing (priority dates listed below)

  • Schedule:

    • Monday–Friday: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM

  • Call Rotation:

    • 1 in 3 call weeks

    • Call weeks include:

      • Day shift coverage

      • Overnight call: 5:00 PM – 7:00 AM

      • 24-hour weekend call

Priority Coverage Dates
  • March 16 – March 22

  • March 30 – April 5

  • April 20 – April 26

  • May 4 – May 10

Case Mix & Volume
  • Predominantly Routine Cardiac Cases:

    • CABG, valve repair/replacement, and related procedures

Annual / Program Volumes:

  • CABG / Valves: ~250

  • TAVR (Standbys): ~200

  • MitraClip (Standbys): ~100

  • Lead Extractions: ~35

Procedures Performed
  • Aortic aneurysms

  • Aortic dissections

  • Atrial fibrillation surgery

  • Cardiac valve repair and replacement

  • Carotid endarterectomy

  • Congenital heart surgery

  • Coronary artery bypass surgery

  • Esophageal surgery (minimally invasive)

  • Heart failure surgery

  • LVAD surgery

  • Minimally invasive and robotic heart surgery

  • Pacemaker procedures

  • Thoracoscopic surgery

  • TAVR / Structural Heart

Cases Not Performed:

  • Electrophysiology cases

  • Oncology lung cases (referred to another facility)

Practice Setting
  • Hospital-based cardiovascular surgery program

  • Trauma Level: II

Candidate Requirements (Required)
  • Proficient in Cardiothoracic and Vascular surgery (flexibility within scope acceptable)

  • Minnesota license or IMLC — required
