Locum Cardiothoracic Surgeon – Hospital-Based
Seeking a Board-Certified Cardiothoracic Surgeon for a locum tenens assignment beginning in February/March for an initial 3–6 months, with the potential for extension into 2026 and possible permanent placement. Coverage is needed due to a leave of absence and provider departure.

Hospital-based cardiothoracic surgery practice

Inpatient-focused role covering OR, ICU, ER consults, and floor rounding

Adult and geriatric patient population

Level I Trauma Center

Annual ER volume: approximately 85,000 visits

Three operating rooms
-
Full ancillary and support staff
-
EMR: Epic
Schedule & Call
-
Scheduled hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
-
Call required: nights and weekends (approximately 7–8 calls per month)

Call shared among 3 providers
Case Volume
-
Average of 2 surgical cases per day
Required Procedures & Skills
-
Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), including off-pump and redo CABG
-
Arterial revascularization using internal mammary, radial, and gastroepiploic arteries

Thoracic and descending aortic aneurysm repair
-
Heart valve repair and replacement (including mitral valve repair)

CoreValve® procedures
-
Tube thoracostomy and pericardial window
Candidate Requirements
-
Board Certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery (required)

Active Connecticut medical license (required; no exceptions)

BLS and ACLS certifications required

Local providers only (mileage reimbursement applies)
Credentialing & Administrative Details

Estimated credentialing timeframe: 30–45 days
