Overview
A leading medical center in Rockville, MD is seeking an experienced Cardiovascular/Thoracic Surgeon for a 6-month locums assignment. This facility is known for its advanced heart and vascular programs, strong surgical outcomes, and collaborative, team-based environment. The location is also minutes from Washington, D.C., offering access to top dining, culture, transportation, and suburban convenience.
Shift & Call Details
- Call every other weeknight
- Call every third weekend
- Approx. 300 cases per year, shared between two surgeons
- Not overly high volume; manageable workload
Department & Clinical Scope
This service line provides a wide range of advanced cardiac surgical and structural heart care. Ideal candidates will have strong expertise in:
- Complex Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)
- Minimally invasive mitral and aortic valve repair/replacement
- Structural heart procedures, including transcatheter valve repair/replacement
- Arrhythmia surgery and catheter-based interventions
- ECMO management
- ICU and critical care management
- Team-based decision making across multidisciplinary heart teams
- Working closely with consultants, APPs, and nursing teams
Preferred: Advanced structural heart training or completed Structural Heart Fellowship (Surgical Director experience is ideal)
Practice Setting
- Type: Hospital
- EMR: Cerner
- Patient Population: Adult cardiac surgical patients
- Support Staff: Comprehensive cardiac surgery team with APPs, ICU staff, and dedicated cardiac support personnel
Candidate Requirements
- Board Certification: Required
- State License: Active Maryland license required (facility not willing to license)
- DEA: Required
- CSR: Required
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS
- Experience: Minimum 5 years preferred
- Skills: Full scope of adult cardiac surgery, minimally invasive valve procedures, structural heart interventions, CABG (on/off pump), multi-arterial grafting, arrhythmia surgery, and associated procedures
