Cardiovascular Surgeon – Locum Tenens (Call Only)
Location: Baltimore, MD
Start Date: December 20, 2025
Shift Type: 24-hour call
Contract Type: Locum Tenens
Duration: 1 week at a time (vacation coverage); next dates: 12/20–1/4 and 3/14–3/22
Local candidates only – mileage reimbursement may be considered if within metro area
Schedule & Responsibilities:

Coverage: 24-hour call only – No clinic or OR time

Setting: Level II Trauma Center | 480-bed hospital

Support: 1 FTE and 1 PRN surgeon, OR APP (PA), and ICU APPs
-
Volume:
-
200 cardiac surgeries/year (~4 per week)
-
Very low call volume (a few per year)
-
No elective cases during coverage – only emergent
-

Scope:
-
Post-op cardiac surgery patient management
-
Ventilator management required
-
ABR, AVR procedures; No transplant or vein harvesting
-
MICU manages medical patients; SICU manages surgical
-
Requirements:
-
Board Certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery

Licensure: Active MD license or IMLC (preferred for quicker turnaround)

Experience: Minimum 1 year post-training

Certifications: ACLS, DEA
-
EMR: Cerner
Credentialing:
-
Full credentialing: 90–120 days
-
Emergency privileges possible in 3–4 weeks for clean files
