Job description General SummaryUses imaging technology and radioactive materials to diagnose and treat illnesses and injuries.Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions:Provides tele-radiologic services for the imaging department and provides immediate contact information to the imaging department during assigned work hours. Communicates to the imaging department in a during times of extended interrupted tele-radiologic connection.Obtains patients? histories from electronic records, patient interviews, dictated reports, and by communicating with referring clinicians. Prepares comprehensive interpretive reports of findings.Performs and interprets the outcomes of diagnostic imaging procedures including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computer tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET), nuclear cardiology treadmill studies, mammography, and ultrasound. Reviews and transmits images and information using picture archiving and communications systems. Communicates examination results and diagnostic information to referring physicians, patients, and families as standardized by the imaging department.Evaluates medical information to determine patients? risk factors (such as allergies to contrast agents) and to make decisions regarding the appropriateness of procedures.Provides counseling to radiologic patients to explain the processes, risks, benefits, and alternative treatments.Confers with medical professionals regarding image-based diagnoses.Develops and monitors procedures to ensure adequate quality control of images.Administers radiopaque substances by injection, orally, and as enemas to render internal structures and organs visible on x-ray films and fluoroscopic screens.Participates in continuing education activities to maintain and develop expertise.Participates in quality improvement activities including discussions of areas where risk of error is high.Common Expectations:Participates in Medical Staff activities as required and/or as requested.Observes the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Hospital and the Medical Staff.Demonstrates a commitment to patient and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection controlStandards; participates and contributes to Quality Assurance Plan and performance improvement initiativesEnhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department, such as evaluation results, individualized treatment plans, progress reports, and other such reports.Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.Required for All Jobs:Performs other related duties as identified.WellSpan Health has adopted and implemented a compliance program to support WellSpan's values and standards for professionalism, integrity, and ethics. Required Licenses:Licensed Medical Physician and Surgeon Upon Hire Required orLicensed Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Upon Hire Required Courses and Training:Board Certified or Board Eligible.
