The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, ranked the No. 1 Academic Medical Center in the World for output of published research in three of the last four years according to the prestigious Nature Index, has an opening for a Nuclear Medicine faculty position. Desirable candidates will have a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree, or foreign equivalent; have completed a minimum of two (2) years of residency or fellowship training in Nuclear Medicine; be board-certified by the ABNM and/or ABR with Nuclear Radiology subspecialty Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ); and be an Authorized User of radioisotopes. Exceptionally experienced applicants who are ABR-certified and Authorized Users will also be considered. Candidates with certification in Nuclear Cardiology, experience in Neuro-molecular imaging, or artificial intelligence are of particular but not exclusive interest. Eligibility for full Texas medical license and its acquisition prior to start of employment is required. Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience and mastery of Nuclear Medicine operations by providing accurate, detailed and timely interpretations and performing relevant therapies and procedures at William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital and Clinics, and at Parkland Health and Hospital System; exercise quality assurance through regular peer review; actively engage in teaching residents and fellows; and have or develop research interests in an area within the field of Nuclear Medicine.

The Nuclear Medicine Division, which includes six faculty members, supervises and interprets more than 20,000 examinations per year, including General Nuclear Medicine, PET/CT, SPECT/CT, nuclear cardiology, and DEXA. Nuclear Medicine faculty also staff a theranostic clinic offering consultations visits and Iodine-131, Radium-223, and Lu-177 therapies. The Division hosts an ACGME-accredited Nuclear Medicine residency program, a PET/CT fellowship program, and an integrated ABR/ABNM training program for dual certification.

More than 30 clinical trials with investigational diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals are open in the Division of Nuclear Medicine, including NCI- and industry-sponsored multicenter clinical trials. We hold investigator-initiated INDs for multiple investigational PET radiopharmaceuticals. There is ample opportunity to collaborate in a range of preclinical novel radiopharmaceutical research projects within the Nuclear Medicine Division and in the Cyclotron and Radiochemistry Program. Current projects focus on immunoPET imaging, Tau imaging, infection imaging and theranostic clinical trials.

UT Southwestern’s Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of just 49 National Cancer Institute-Designated Cancer Centers in the nation, is the only NCI-designated cancer center in North Texas. Cancer care at UT Southwestern earned High Performing recognition from U.S. News and World Report, placing the Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center among the nation’s leading cancer treatment facilities. Additionally, there is active and substantial growth underway, with the recent expansion of Clements University Hospital, as well as a new Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center outpatient building, and a new research facility for the Peter O’Donnell Jr. Brain Institute scheduled for completion within the next three years.
