Job Description

Last Update: 3/05/24
Carilion Clinic is accepting applications for a Board Certified/Board Eligible Radiologist with fellowship training in Thoracic or Cardiothoracic Imaging to join the Department of Radiology at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH) and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. Carilion Clinic is currently building a 400,000 square-foot addition to CRMH which will house the Cardiothoracic Institute and is seeking well qualified candidates to support growing cardiothoracic services.
The department is composed of 21 Diagnostic Radiologists based in Roanoke including one cardiothoracic fellowship trained Radiologist. The Department also includes 6 dedicated Interventional Radiologists, 1 Neuro-Interventional Radiologist, 4 dedicated Breast Imaging Radiologists, and 7 additional Diagnostic Radiologists that are based at Regional Hospitals outside of Roanoke. In additional to Cardiothoracic imaging, other Radiologists in the practice have fellowship training in Neuroradiology, Breast Imaging, Body Imaging, Interventional Radiology, Neuro-Interventional Radiology, Musculoskeletal Imaging, and Molecular Imaging.

Studies currently performed in the cardiothoracic imaging division include CT imaging including cancer staging, lung cancer screening, and interstitial lung disease evaluation. Cardiac studies include coronary CTA, vein mapping cardiac CT, TAVI evaluation, and cardiac MRI. We collaboratively participate in multiple tumor board conferences including weekly thoracic oncology conferences and weekly general oncology conferences. In additional there are monthly cardiac imaging conferences held jointly with the section of cardiovascular medicine.

Although the primary focus of this position is thoracic/cardiothoracic imaging, candidates must also be able to interpret general neuro/body/MSK radiographs/ultrasound/CT studies. Overnight shifts are covered by teleradiology. Evening shifts (5P to 11P) and weekend shifts are distributed evenly amongst the 21 diagnostic Radiologists based at CRMH. Interventional procedures, interpretation of mammography, and interpretation of non-thoracic MRI is NOT required.

Carilion Clinic continues to experience growth which has led to several new expansion projects including a 300 million-dollar, 400,000 square-foot expansion to CRMH which will include new facilities for the Carilion Cardiovascular Institute as well as significant expansion of our Emergency Department. Carilion is also currently renovating space for a new 150,000 square-foot outpatient pediatric clinic including imaging facilities.

CRMH is a 703-bed flagship hospital in Southwest Virginia, the third largest hospital in the Commonwealth of Virginia, a designated level 1 trauma center, and a designated Stroke Center serving nearly one million people. CRMH and associated imaging centers are state-of-the-art facilities with seven CT scanners (including four dual-energy scanners) and five Siemens MRI scanners including three 3-Tesla systems (2 Aera, 1 Skyra, 1 Verio, 1 Vida). Technology platforms include Sectra PACS, Powerscribe 360, EPIC EMR, Tera-Recon, and Syngo.Via advanced image processing.
All Radiologists at CRMH have academic appointments at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and light teaching responsibilities for medical students and non-radiology residents. There are no expectations for research. However, participation in research is available for interested candidates.

Thank you for your consideration. Please let me know if you have an interest in this location/opportunity and I'll facilitate getting you additional information.
