We’re seeking a Psychiatrist MD/DO for a long-term outpatient opportunity in San Jose, California. This position offers approximately 12-16 hours per week, a highly flexible weekday schedule, and a rate starting at $320/hour with flexibility to consider higher rates.

This role requires a psychiatrist who is comfortable treating patients age 5 through adulthood. Adult-only psychiatrists will not be considered.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a unique outpatient psychiatry position providing care to individuals with developmental disabilities and co-occurring mental health needs.

The psychiatrist will perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, mental status examinations, diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing medication management. You'll work closely with the medical director, nurses, clinicians, therapists, and case managers to provide individualized, patient-centered psychiatric care.

Common diagnoses include anxiety disorders, depression, intermittent explosive disorder, disruptive mood dysregulation disorder, OCD, schizoaffective disorder, and bipolar disorder.

A small portion of the work may also involve JV-220 documentation.

BUILD A SCHEDULE THAT WORKS

The facility is seeking approximately 12-16 hours of coverage per week, with flexibility to build a consistent schedule within Monday-Friday business hours.

Potential schedules may include:

  • Two Full Clinic Days
  • 9:00 AM-1:00 PM | 3 Days/Week
  • 9:00 AM-3:00 PM | 2 Days/Week
  • Other Consistent Weekday Arrangements

Current facility business hours are 8:30 AM-5:00 PM.

At least one day per week must be in person. Final onsite versus hybrid expectations should be confirmed during the interview process.

PATIENT VOLUME

For approximately a 7.5-hour clinical day, expect roughly:

6-10 Patients Per Day

Daily volume will vary depending on the mix of:

  • New Psychiatric Evaluations
  • Routine Follow-Ups
  • Medication Management
  • Patient Complexity

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluations
  • Mental Status Examinations
  • Diagnosis + Treatment Planning
  • Psychiatric Medication Management
  • Prescribing Medications, Including Controlled Substances
  • Review Laboratory and Diagnostic Information
  • Develop Individualized Mental Health Treatment Plans
  • Collaborate With an Interdisciplinary Clinical Team
  • Provide Family/Caregiver Education and Counseling
  • Complete Clinical Documentation
  • Provide Psychiatric Consultation and Peer Guidance
  • Participate in Quality Improvement Activities
  • Complete Legal/Court-Related Documentation When Appropriate

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • MD or DO
  • Active California Medical License
  • Must Treat Patients Age 5+
  • Must Be Comfortable Treating Both Younger and Adult Populations
  • Strong Psychiatric Evaluation + Medication Management Experience
  • Ability to Prescribe Controlled Substances
  • Strong Clinical Documentation and Communication Skills
  • Ability to Work Independently and Collaboratively
  • Comfortable Treating Individuals With Developmental Disabilities and Co-Occurring Mental Health Conditions

BOARD STATUS

Board Certified or Board Eligible Preferred

Adult and/or Child Psychiatry certification/eligibility through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology is highly preferred.

LOCAL CANDIDATES ONLY

This opportunity is specifically seeking a local or drive-in psychiatrist located within approximately 30 miles of ZIP code 95128.

Fly-in candidates will not be considered, and travel or mileage expenses are not covered.
