Locum Tenens Psychiatry Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $8,160–$8,750
• Location: San Francisco, California
• Healthcare Setting: Adolescent psychiatric inpatient unit
• Start Date: December 14, 2026
• End Date: June 14, 2027
• Contract Duration: Approximately 26 weeks
• Shift Duration: 8-hour days
• Schedule: Coverage for two weekends per month along with the following Monday and Tuesday
• Monday/Tuesday Coverage: On-site coverage generally from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., followed by overnight call through 8:00 a.m.
• Weekend Coverage: Approximately 6 hours of rounding beginning at 8:00 a.m., followed by call through 8:00 a.m. the next day
• Patient Volume: Approximately 6–12 patients per day
• Practice Setting: On-site adolescent psychiatric care with overnight and weekend call responsibilities

Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist Job Requirements

• Board certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, or board certification in General Psychiatry with completion of a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship
• At least 1 year of experience providing psychiatric care to children and adolescents
• Active California physician license
• California DEA registration with Schedule II/II-N prescribing authority
• Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association
• Strong knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses, psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, adolescent development, and family systems
• Experience managing psychiatric medications and challenging behaviors in adolescent patients
• Ability to develop individualized treatment plans and collaborate effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals
• Strong communication, de-escalation, leadership, and clinical decision-making skills
• Familiarity with legal, educational, and safeguarding considerations relevant to adolescent patients
• Must reside in California
• Availability to complete credentialing and privileging, which generally requires 60–90 days

Psychiatry Physician Responsibilities

• Provide psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing clinical management for adolescent patients
• Conduct on-site rounding and assess patient progress, safety, and response to treatment
• Develop and update comprehensive, individualized treatment plans
• Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications in accordance with patient needs and clinical guidelines
• Provide overnight call coverage on designated Mondays and Tuesdays
• Place admission orders for patients accepted for admission during overnight call
• Provide weekend rounding and 24-hour call coverage on designated weekends
• Lead and collaborate with a multidisciplinary treatment team, offering clinical guidance to other healthcare professionals
• Partner with parents and guardians to support treatment planning, education, and continuity of care
• Use therapeutic interventions and de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviors
• Deliver culturally responsive care tailored to the diverse needs of adolescent patients and their families
