The Opportunity

A 20-bed geriatric psychiatry unit in a hospital that has been part of Northwest Philadelphia since 1890. Monday to Friday, days. No weekends. No nights. Call is 1-in-3. For a psychiatrist who has spent years trading schedule control for income, this is the inversion of that bargain — a defined unit, a defined week, and an APP working alongside you. The population is older adults with genuine psychiatric illness layered over medical complexity, which is demanding work done at a humane pace.

What You'll Own

• A 20-bed geriatric psychiatry unit as a defined, bounded service.
• A weekday schedule that holds. Monday to Friday days, no weekends, no nights, 1-in-3 call.
• A collaborative APP on the unit with you rather than a caseload you carry alone.
• Associated nursing home visits through the Senior Behavioral Health program, giving continuity beyond the inpatient stay.

• Board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry
• Pennsylvania license, or eligibility in process

• Geriatric psychiatry fellowship or substantial geriatric experience
• Comfort managing psychiatric illness alongside medical comorbidity

What Working Here Is Actually Like

• $300,000 base plus a $50,000 bonus.
• Full W-2 benefits. Medical, dental and vision from the first of the month after hire; employer-paid life at 1x salary up to $300,000; employer-paid long-term disability at 60% of salary; 401(k). The benefit plan year runs 1 October to 30 September.
• Malpractice and tail both covered. Tail is the one people forget to ask about until they leave.

• A non-academic service — no teaching obligation, no committee load.
• A hospital with real community roots. Roxborough runs residencies in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine and Podiatry, and a School of Nursing dating to 1898.
• Physician-owned and physician-managed since 2012. When you escalate a problem, it reaches a physician who still works clinical shifts.
• Not a locums agency. An ongoing program position with a named, stable team.
• Licensure is faster than you expect if you're coming from out of state. Pennsylvania participates in the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, so if you already hold a qualifying license elsewhere, adding this one typically runs one to three weeks rather than months.

Geriatric psychiatry is slow, careful work with families as much as patients, and the unit turns over less than an acute adult service would. If you want fast throughput and diagnostic variety, this will feel narrow. If you want to actually know your patients, it won't.
