NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, located in the heart of Brooklyn, accommodate more than 518,076 outpatient visits, more than 141,328 emergency room visits, and with 627 beds, more than 25,000 inpatient admissions annually. The hospital maintains a strong academic affiliation with SUNY Downstate Medical Center in order to maintain its high standards of healthcare delivery.

Kings County is located in the East Flatbush/Prospect-Lefferts section of Brooklyn, close to the 2 and 5 subways. Our patients are diverse, with the majority being afro-Caribbean. Most of our patients are native English speakers. Knowledge of French/Haitian Creole is helpful, but not required.

Responsibilities:

Provide clinical and administrative supervision to all Attending Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and allied health professionals on the relevant acute inpatient service (child inpatient).

  • Oversee relevant acute inpatient service functioning including, but not limited to:
    • Policies and procedures regulating delivery of patient care on the service
    • Coordination of care between disciplines and functioning of interdisciplinary treatment teams.
    • Supervision and coordination of inpatient leadership.
    • Establishing, monitoring and maintaining professional standards of work in collaboration with other disciplines coordination of professional staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage at all times.
    • Monitoring workload and work assignments and effecting staff and program changes to ensure highest quality of patient care.
    • Liaises with other departments like the CPEP, medical inpatient and ED, and transfer to other facilities.
    • Ensure timely application and court presentation for retention and treatment over-rides.

  • Quality assurance, performance improvement and regulatory affairs:
    • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of standards for certification by regulatory agencies.
    • Work with acute inpatient staff to ensure compliance with corrective action plans.
    • Participates in relevant Pl & QA activities and initiatives, both locally and in collaboration with hospital wide quality endeavors.
    • Maintains awareness of performance improvement indicator and leads interventions and initiatives to meet goals for the service.
    • Prepares annual report for the service.
    • In collaboration with risk management reviews major incidents on the service and leads and monitors relevant corrective action when needed.
    • Works with all staff to ensure timely and adequate medical record keeping and monitors the quality of documentation.
    • Provides clinical consultation and supervision as needed to all staff on the acute inpatient service.
    • Conducts and coordinates tier reviews as per policy
    • Maintains focus on key strategic priorities including patient experience, access to care, increased market share, and improving financial stability

  • Education and supervision:
    • Maintain an updated and comprehensive set of psychiatric practice guidelines including administration of medication in accordance with generally accepted professional standards that address the indication, contradictions screening and monitoring procedures, dose requirements and expected outcomes.
    • Ensure and monitor that the pharmacological components of treatment plan reflect the exercise of professional judgement for the medication treatment including diagnosis, target symptoms, risk and benefits of particular medication, and consideration of alternate treatments.
    • Ensure that the rationale for each patient's course of treatment is documented by the physician
    • Include all above in standards of work expected of Attending and Nurse Practitioner and monitor and reinforce said standards of work
    • Teach and supervise psychiatry trainees and medical students

Qualifications:

  • Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Child Psychiatry
  • M.D. or D.O. from an accredited school of medicine
  • Completed residency training in an accredited program within Psychiatry
  • License to practice medicine in the State of New York
  • Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination prior to hire

  • Annual Base Salary Range: $247,200 (board eligible) - $257,500 (board certified)
