Essen Health Care is seeking at Essen is seeking a full-time Medical Director of Psychiatry for its Behavioral Health Division.

The Medical Director of Behavioral Health will have the opportunity to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams at Essen. This position is responsible for supporting the Chief Behavioral Health Office and Chief Operating Officer. Essential Responsibilities will compromise of 20% Administrative and 80% Clinical.

REPORTS TO: Chief Behavioral Health Office and Chief Operating Officer

The selected candidate serves in this leadership role which offers opportunity for teaching and mentoring. All sites have strong participation with Essen Health home care coordination, with potential innovative pilot projects, but not limited to:

  • Develop and recommend to Policies and Procedures governing patient care in accordance with generally accepted standards of professional practice and review such on an annual basis.
  • Develop and recommend to the Policies and Procedures appointments to the Behavioral Health Staff, the assignment of their clinical privileges and reviews of such appointments.
  • Annually evaluate Psychiatrist and Psychiatry Nurse Practitioner
  • other health care professionals.
  • Responsible for the medical supervision of patients.
  • Chair and direct the activities of the Continuing Quality Assurance.
  • Attend and chair regular meetings with Department providers
  • Meet regularly with the Behavioral Health Manager and Chief Behavioral Health Officer.
  • Consult with the Medical Advisory Committee regarding the setting of clinical policies
  • Advise Essen Health Care operating staff and participates when necessary in the development of contact relationships with other health care delivery systems.
  • Participate in ongoing clinician in-service training
  • Formally and informally, participate in the training and professional education of staff and other health workers.
  • Evaluate patients with medical and psychiatric conditions.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, including prescription of psychotropic medications.
  • Evaluate patients by interviewing patient, family, and other persons by conducting physical examinations; observing behaviors and reviewing medical history and related documents
  • Interpreting psychological test and ordering laboratory test and evaluating results.
  • Diagnose patient with correct psychological, emotional, or behavioral disorder.
  • Collaborate with patient’s physicians and other medical staff in SNF to determine treatment
  • Develop treatment plans by determining nature and exent of cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavior disorders and establishing treatment goals and methodologies.
  • Maintain interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing treatment plans and progress.
  • Assure quality and safe service for patients and staff by enforcing policies, procedures, standard, rules, Joint Commission for Accreditation of Health Care Organizations requirements, and legal regulations.
  • Participate in Utilization reviews and remaining available for emergency consultations. • Analyze the best medications or therapy treatment to help patient maximize quality of life.
  • Maintain historical records by documenting symptom, medications, and treatment events in patient records.
  • Counsel patient and listen to their reactions to treatment

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
  • Board Certification/ Eligible by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
  • Local/state regulations and certifications, Continuing Medical Education (CME), and Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations requirements must be met.
  • Four-year psychiatry residency.
  • Participation in further medical education and professional organization memberships are preferred.
