Psychiatrist – Consult/Liaison (Hospital-Based)
Location: Santa Barbara, California
A hospital-based program in Santa Barbara, CA is seeking a Psychiatrist to provide consult/liaison psychiatric services for hospitalized patients. This opportunity supports inpatient medical teams by evaluating and managing patients experiencing psychiatric conditions during hospitalization.
Position Overview
The Psychiatrist will provide consultative psychiatric care for hospitalized patients and collaborate closely with physicians, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary care teams. The role focuses on evaluating psychiatric needs within the medical setting and supporting safe, coordinated patient care.
Schedule

7 days on / 7 days off

Day shift: 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM
-
Overnight call: 5:30 PM – 7:30 AM

Overnight call approximately 2–3 times per week
Key Responsibilities

Provide consult/liaison psychiatric services for hospitalized patients

Conduct psychiatric evaluations and recommend treatment plans for inpatients

Manage acute psychiatric conditions and perform risk assessments

Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and healthcare teams

Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and care planning

Document patient encounters, findings, and interventions in the electronic medical record

Communicate with families and outpatient providers to support continuity of care

Participate in shift handoffs and provide updates to incoming staff

Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
Qualifications

MD or DO with completion of an accredited Psychiatry residency

Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry
-
Active California medical license or ability to obtain

Experience in consult/liaison psychiatry, inpatient psychiatry, or hospital-based psychiatry preferred

Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary hospital environment

Physicians may cover one rotation per month depending on availability
