Job description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Psychiatrist to join our healthcare team within a state hospital located in Indianapolis, IN. This is a part time on site position for about 20 hours/week. You can expect a caseload of approximately 20-27 patients (average of 24 per day) and this position is working with the adult population.

Job Responsibilities
- Collaborate with physicians, psychologists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, and other professionals to coordinate patient care and review treatment progress.
- Conduct psychiatric evaluations and diagnose mental health conditions based on patient history, assessments, and clinical findings.
- Collect, document, and maintain patient medical and social history records.
- Develop and implement appropriate treatment plans and interventions.
- Review diagnostic evaluations and treatment plans to ensure effective patient care.
- Participate in program evaluation and planning for psychiatric services.
- Contribute to hospital committees and support institutional governance.
- Supervise or mentor students or trainees when applicable.
- Communicate with patients, families, and approved external stakeholders regarding care in accordance with policies.
- Support interdisciplinary collaboration with internal teams and external agencies.
Qualifications
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Psychiatry.
- Subspecialty board certification if applicable.
- Valid license to practice medicine in the State of Indiana issued by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency.
- Completion of an accredited psychiatry residency program (or subspecialty training if applicable).
- CPR certification.
- Ability to perform essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Prior experience in a state hospital setting.
Working Hours
Shift: two 7.5hr days, one 5hr day - flexible on hours, 3 days/week
Duration: 4/6/26 - 7/3/26
Skills
- Experience serving in a leadership role on treatment teams, providing appropriate clinical direction in development of individual treatment plans.
- Experience analyzing and evaluating patient data or test findings to diagnose nature or extent of mental disorder.
- Experience in de-escalation techniques and dealing with high-pressure situations.
- Strategic thinking and understanding of healthcare systems and environments.
- Strong clinical knowledge in psychiatric diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.
- Critical thinking and ability to analyze complex patient data.
- Knowledge of human behavior, psychological assessment, and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to build professional relationships across different organizational levels.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound clinical judgment.
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
