Job Description:
This role involves providing comprehensive psychiatric care to adults in an ICE correctional facility, addressing both acute and chronic mental health needs in inpatient and outpatient environments. The psychiatrist conducts full diagnostic evaluations, manages psychotropic medication regimens, and delivers therapeutic interventions tailored to a diverse and often high-complexity patient population. In addition to direct patient care, the position oversees mental health programming, mentors clinical staff, and contributes to operational planning that supports the facility’s behavioral health goals. The work includes collaboration with medical, administrative, and legal teams to ensure continuity of care and compliance with regulatory standards. This position is essential in supporting the emotional well-being, stabilization, and rehabilitation of individuals in a secure setting.
Job Responsibilities
• Provide direct psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis (DSM-based), and ongoing treatment for inmates/residents in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychotropic medications, including ordering and interpreting necessary lab work.
• Participate in civil commitment proceedings and other legal processes related to patient care.
• Develop, implement, and oversee mental health treatment plans, therapeutic programs, and counseling services.
• Supervise, mentor, and support facility mental health staff while coordinating services with contracted providers.
• Prepare clinical documentation, progress notes, case presentations, and statistical reports in compliance with facility and regulatory standards.
• Evaluate mental health program operations and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and quality of care.
• Participate in on call coverage, facility meetings, and interdisciplinary activities essential to service delivery.
Qualifications
• MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
• Completion of an ACGME approved psychiatry residency (or equivalent).
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
• Active medical license in the state of practice.
• Active DEA and DPS registrations.
• Current CPR/BLS certification.
• TB screening, health certificate, and ability to meet all federal/state/local compliance requirements.
• Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience, including at least 2 years in a comparable role.
• Valid driver’s license.
• U.S. Citizenship (required for ICE clearance).
