Job Description:

This role provides full-time adult psychiatric care, serving an incarcerated adult population with a wide range of mental health conditions. The psychiatrist delivers evaluations, medication management, and ongoing treatment for patients in a structured correctional environment where safety, stabilization, and continuity of care are paramount. Providers will manage an average daily census of 10–15 patients and work closely with an interdisciplinary healthcare and custody team to coordinate care effectively. All care is delivered onsite, requiring adaptability, strong clinical judgment, and comfort working within correctional protocols. This position offers a predictable schedule, no on-call responsibilities, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on an underserved population.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for adult patients in a correctional setting
• Manage and adjust psychotropic medications in accordance with clinical guidelines and correctional policies
• Conduct ongoing patient assessments, follow-ups, and treatment planning for inmates with mental health needs
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary correctional healthcare teams including nursing, medical, and custody staff
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record
• Ensure care delivery aligns with federal, state, and local regulations as well as professional standards of practice
• Respond to mental health concerns that impact patient safety, stabilization, and continuity of care
• Deliver care in a fully onsite, structured environment with consistent daily patient volume

Qualifications

• MD or DO from an accredited medical school
• Completion of an ACGME-approved psychiatry residency (or equivalent)
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry (ABPN or AOBP)
• Active California medical license at time of submission
• Active California DEA registration
• Active CAQH profile (must be current or created prior to submission)
• Current CPR certification (if applicable)
• Meets all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
• Prior correctional psychiatry experience preferred
• Ability to commit to a minimum 6-month onsite contract, 40 hours per week
