The VA New York Harbor Healthcare System (NYHHCS) is a multi-site medical system that includes a major medical facility in Manhattan, Brooklyn, St. Albans campus in Queens, and two Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). VA NYHHCS is an academic facility with teaching and research programs.
VA NEW YORK HARBOR HEALTHCARE SYSTEM, Manhattan campus, affiliated with NYU Grossman School of Medicine, is recruiting a full-time Psychiatrist for our PRIMARY CARE/MENTAL HEALTH INTEGRATION ("PCMHI") program.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
PCMHI is VA's approach to integrating mental and behavioral health care into medical settings that are co-located and collaborative with the primary care team. PCMHI focuses on early intervention and prevention for mild-to-moderate behavioral health conditions within primary care and aids in identifying and referring veterans to specialty mental health services when necessary. PCMHI services include collocated collaborative care providers and Mental Health Collaborative Care Managers who offer ongoing support and treatment management, ensuring veterans receive appropriate care based on their needs. The role of the psychiatrist is to provide consultative support to the Primary Care Providers, including guiding PC providers in the usage of psychotropic medications as part of the implementation of VA's stepped MH care model. In addition, though remaining 100% situated in the Primary Care clinic, the psychiatrist will also carry a panel of outpatients from the Mental Health Clinic with a wide range of psychiatric disorders, providing primarily medication management.
Work Schedule: Full-time-Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years).
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
