Psychiatrist - Behavioral Health Director


Purpose: This leadership role involves providing strategic direction and oversight for comprehensive behavioral healthcare services delivered to children and adults within an integrated care facility as well as seeing patients. The Director is responsible for managing the behavioral health department, ensuring the quality and efficiency of services, and leading a diverse team of clinical professionals.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and administrative oversight for all behavioral health programs and services.
  • Direct the development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based clinical programs and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Manage the department's budget and fiscal operations, ensuring financial sustainability and resource optimization.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate clinical staff, including psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, social workers, and counselors.
  • Ensure the behavioral health department operates in compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations (including FQHC requirements), as well as clinic policies.
  • Collaborate autonomously with other members of the executive leadership, medical, and dental teams to ensure integrated, holistic patient care.
  • Develop, implement, and review community and patient education programs focused on mental health promotion and disease prevention.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of clinical activities, performance metrics, and program outcomes in medical records and required reports.
  • Serve as a consultant to the clinic's administrative and clinical staff on complex behavioral health matters.
  • Facilitate seamless communication across all healthcare professionals to support the effective delivery of clinic services.

Education, Skills, and Qualifications:

  • MD, or DOin a behavioral health or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Current and active clinical licensure in New York State (Psychiatrist).
  • A progressive experience in clinical and administrative roles within an ambulatory or public health setting, with at least three years in a leadership/supervisory capacity.
  • Exceptional strategic planning, organizational, and management competencies are essential.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities, with a proven track record of effective team leadership.
  • Self-motivated, energetic, passionate, and innovative leader.
  • Bilingual proficiency, particularly in Spanish, is preferred but not mandatory.
