Job description POSITION: Director of Psychiatry
SCHEDULE: Full-time 40 Hours Per Week
FACILITY: Statewide New Mexico
LOCATION: Albuquerque, NM

As the Statewide Psychiatric Director, you will oversee psychiatric and behavioral health services across all New Mexico Corrections Department facilities. Serving as a key member of the multi-disciplinary leadership team, you will ensure timely, effective, and cost-efficient care is delivered. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Directing and evaluating psychiatric services, intakes, assessments, treatment, and medication monitoring statewide
  • Providing leadership and supervision to Psychiatrists, Psychiatric NPs/PAs, and behavioral health staff
  • Developing, implementing, and monitoring behavioral health policies, standards of care, and clinical practices in line with NCCHC and ACA standards
  • Overseeing orientation, mentorship, and continuing education for behavioral health staff and students
  • Ensuring appropriate utilization of psychotropic medications and monitoring treatment outcomes
  • Participating in decision-making committees and collaborating with medical, nursing, and security leaders
  • Conducting site visits, audits, and record reviews to ensure compliance and quality improvement
  • Developing and maintaining a 24-hour behavioral health consultation system for crisis intervention
  • Providing leadership in corrective action planning, CQI activities, and staff development initiatives
  • Representing Wexford Health at state and national meetings related to psychiatric and correctional healthcare

Qualifications

Medical Degree with completion of psychiatry residency
Board Certification--American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (required)
Current New Mexico Medical license, Controlled Substance license, and DEA registration
5 years' experience in institutional or correctional healthcare (preferred)
Current CPR certification
Strong leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills
Ability to mentor providers, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a high-demand environment
