Our client is seeking a highly qualified Medical Director to lead the Inpatient Psychiatry Unit. This role is based at a prestigious academic hospital in New Haven County, CT. The Medical Director will oversee clinical operations, ensure quality patient care, provide leadership to the psychiatric team, and collaborate with hospital administration to implement best practices and promote continuous improvement. Job Description:
Compensation : $320000 - $350000 Job ID : 37245
Clinical vs. Administrative Time Split:
- Clinical: 80–85% (psychiatric evaluations, daily rounds, crisis interventions)
- Administrative: 15–20% (documentation, team meetings, supervision, policy development)
Patient Care Responsibilities:
- Manage care for ~10 adult inpatients daily
- Conduct psychiatric evaluations for new admissions
- Provide crisis intervention and occasional medical floor consults (vacation coverage basis)
Leadership & Education Duties:
- Supervise APRNs, medical students, and clinical staff
- Lead treatment team meetings and contribute to quality improvement initiatives
- Organize psychiatry clerkship rotations for third-year medical students
- Participate in teaching and mentoring medical residents
Schedule & Call Coverage:
- Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (onsite required)
- Call: 1:4 rotation for weeknights, weekends, and holidays; solo coverage for inpatient, crisis, and consults
Support & Systems:
- Multidisciplinary team includes nursing, social work, recreational therapy, and mental health workers
- EMR: Meditech | Dictation: Dragon software available
Patient Population:
- Adults (18+) with moderate to severe psychiatric acuity
- Diagnoses include mood disorders, psychotic disorders, substance use disorders, and acute crisis presentations
- Mix of voluntary and involuntary admissions
Job Requirements:
2 years of experience.
Leadership experience preferred.
Connecticut state medical license, DEA registration, and board certification required.
Completion of a general psychiatry residency required.
