We are seeking an experienced Medical Director โ€“ Mental Health to lead our integrated system of behavioral health services, including mental health, substance use, and developmental disability programs.

Reporting to the Commissioner of Mental Health Services, the Medical Director provides clinical oversight, psychiatric expertise, and strategic leadership to ensure high-quality, person-centered care for our community. This role combines clinical practice, administrative responsibility, and community collaboration to support a comprehensive, whole-health approach to wellness.

Job Responsibilities

Provide outpatient and emergency psychiatric evaluations and treatment.
Deliver psychiatric consultation and emergency services to patients, law enforcement, and the courts.
Perform court-ordered evaluations and issue hospital commitment orders as appropriate.
Supervise psychiatrists, APPs, and clinical staff, ensuring quality standards and professional development.
Oversee clinical privileging, peer review, and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Participate in administrative leadership meetings and assist in policy development.
Serve as a liaison with community physicians, hospitals, and partner agencies.
Support integration across child and adult services, public health, and developmental disability programs.
Contribute psychiatric expertise to planning, coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Participate in recruitment, training, and supervision of medical and clinical personnel.

Qualifications

Active and unrestricted New York medical license โ€“ must be in hand at the time of application.
Board Certified in Psychiatry (ABPN).
Minimum 1 year of supervisory or administrative experience.
Strong leadership, clinical, and communication skills with a commitment to community-based care.
Preferred Qualifications:
Fellowship training or certification in Forensic Psychiatry or Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
Experience working in public or community mental health settings.
Academic or teaching experience with APPs, nursing, or psychiatry residents.

Working Hours

40 hours per week | Flexible 7-hour days | 1 day/week remote option.
Rotating coverage between two clinic locations.
Approximately 10% administrative duties (meetings, policy input, supervision).
Federal loan repayment eligible.
No overtime.
Relocation assistance may be available (to be confirmed).
CME leave: Limited; training requests reviewed individually.
