Description:
Tompkins County is seeking a Medical Director – Mental Health to lead its community mental health, substance use disorder, and developmental disability services. The Medical Director will provide outpatient and emergency psychiatric care, perform court evaluations, consult with law enforcement, and supervise clinical staff. This leadership role offers the opportunity to shape high-quality mental health programs that impact the community directly.
Job Responsibilities
Provide outpatient and emergency psychiatric assessments 🧠🏥
Perform court evaluations and coordinate with law enforcement ⚖️🚓
Supervise physicians and other clinical staff 👩⚕️👨⚕️
Develop and implement policies, procedures, and staff training programs 📋
Collaborate with hospitals, community agencies, and educational programs 🤝🏫
Ensure quality of care and proper clinical staff privileging
Contribute to program evaluation, accountability, and planning
Qualifications
MD/DO with Board Certification in Psychiatry 🎓
Strong knowledge of community psychiatry, mental health laws, and clinical best practices
Experience supervising clinical teams and leading mental health programs
Excellent judgment, decision-making, and leadership skills
Physical and mental fitness to meet the demands of the role
