A mission-driven healthcare organization serving diverse communities across New York City is seeking a board-certified Psychiatrist to step into a leadership role as Assistant Medical Director. This position offers a unique blend of clinical practice and administrative oversight, ideal for a physician who is passionate about both patient care and system-level impact.

The Assistant Medical Director will provide direct psychiatric care while supporting the strategic and operational goals of the behavioral health department. This role is approximately 70% clinical and 30% administrative, with responsibilities spanning patient care, supervision, quality improvement, and program development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and follow-up care to a diverse patient population.
  • Collaborate with primary care and behavioral health teams to ensure integrated, trauma-informed care.
  • Supervise and mentor psychiatric nurse practitioners and other clinical staff.
  • Participate in case conferences and interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of clinical protocols and workflows.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and monitor clinical performance metrics.
  • Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and training of behavioral health providers.
  • Help ensure compliance with regulatory standards and best practices.
  • Participate in strategic planning and expansion of behavioral health services.

Requirements:

  • MD or DO with Board Certification in Psychiatry.
  • Active New York State medical license and DEA registration.
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical experience; leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience working with underserved populations or in community health settings is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and team-building skills.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus but not required.
