Position: Geriatric Psychiatrist – Senior Behavioral Health Unit
Location: Saranac Lake, NY
Start Date: ASAP (emergency privileges available for rapid start)
Duration: Ongoing
Assignment Type: Inpatient geriatric psychiatry
Schedule:
- Onsite rounding: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (1-hour unpaid lunch) — flexible; typically <8 hours/day onsite
- Nightly call: 5:00 PM – 8:00 AM
- Weekend call: Same as nightly, as scheduled
- H&Ps performed by other physicians
- Occasional consults on Med/Surg or ED floors (infrequent)
Patient Population & Census:
- 100% geriatric / senior behavioral health (ages 55+)
- 12-bed inpatient unit
- Average daily census: 8–12 patients
- Average patients seen daily: 8–12
Support & Resources:
- Social workers and nurses onsite
- Locum will be the sole psychiatrist for the unit
- EMR: Meditech (training provided)
- Dictation services available
Requirements:
- Board Certified or Board Eligible Psychiatrist
- Fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry not required
- Active NY license preferred (emergency privileges possible)
Credentialing:
- Immediate start possible with emergency privileges
